Logan Heights, named after a Civil war general is located smack dab in the middle of Grant Hill and Barrio Logan, San Diego. It is an extremely diverse community that is constantly changing, growing, and welcoming newcomers. Here are some of the top reasons to live there:

2) Affordable Living

According to statistics, the median home value in Logan Heights is $427,200. While that is not as cheap as some other locations like Castle ($349,000) or Mountain View ($399,000), it is definitely on the lower end of pricing when it comes to living in San Diego County. Many other areas like North Park and Western San Diego fall into the $600,000 range.

3) Unique history

We mentioned earlier that Logan Heights was named after a Civil War General. To elaborate, this was the same General that was accredited with the creation of Memorial Day. In the late 1860’s, much of the area’s land was offered to the San Diego and Gila Railroad, but after the company failed it was again returned to the city. Shortly afterward, the Pacific Railroad gained access to the land, eventually suffering the same fate as the previous railroad. It was not until the 1880s that the land was purchased again, this time by the San Diego Land and Town Company. Over the years the area became known as a “squatter town”, but continued to grow consistently and drew migrants from many walks of life. For many years the community was home to the simple life, but with 1905 came plenty of expansion and growth and the area soon became a diverse business section. Today Logan Heights shows its diverse history through its many individual residences and businesses that are reminders of centuries of growth.

4) Continual growth

Not only has Logan Heights showed centuries worth of growth, but it still continues that pattern today. There have been recent talks about transforming the industrial areas into a more walkable, transit-oriented neighborhood. The city also intends to make the existing trolley a major asset to the neighborhood. In addition, a new school has just entered the picture and there are also plans for new urban hiking trails and parks.

5) Centralized location

Logan Heights is an extremely centralized location within a short driving distance of almost anything you would ever need. Downtown San Diego is just a short 10-minute drive, the airport is only 20 minutes away, and the world famous Balboa Park is only an 8-minute drive.

If you’re looking for a diverse neighborhood with a rich history, Logan Heights may be somewhere you want to look. Living in the area is extremely affordable and it’s within driving distance of everything you could possibly need.
