- RICH HISTORY
The town of Lakeside started in the 1880s with a focus on the Lakeside Inn. The architecture of the 80-room inn was similar to the grandeur of the Hotel Del Coronado and was a destination for health and relaxation. At that time it took almost a day’s buggy ride to reach the Inn which was torn down in the 1920s. Over time, the town has grown slowly, but still, it retains its cultural feel while growing to have a reputation for boating, fishing, hunting and relaxing.

The Lakeside Union School District has standard school provisions, and this includes seven elementary (K-5), two middle schools (6-8), a charter program and a home school program. Most middle school graduates from the Lakeside Union School District system attend El Captain, a comprehensive high school which is a part of Grossmont Union High School District.
The Charter school is known as River Valley High School, and The school currently has over 200 students, nine full-time faculty, four electives teachers, and a college counselor. This small school population also enables the school system in Lakeside provides a wide range of programs in small to an average settings.
